Description
Remote lava fields along Hawaii Island’s southern coast hold a secret; an eroding cinder cone that crumbles into a luminous green sand beach. Look closely at the olivine sand and you just may get a glimpse of Pele’s tears.
Papakōlea (PAH-pah-KŌH-lay-ah; plover flats)
Every Kanilea pen is unique in color and pattern. The pattern of Papakōlea varies from pen to pen and from our online photos. Your Papakōlea Maile Lei will be uniquely yours—no one will have one just like it, and that makes every Kanilea very special.
Papakōlea Maile Lei is created with a wide Argentium Silver band featuring a lei of maile leaves. A lei made of maile leaves expresses many meanings and is used to celebrate important life events or is given as a sign of friendship. Traditionally, a maile lei is worn draped around the neck, open ended, but closed maile leis are also made. Our Maile Lei band represents an unbroken circle of love, respect, peace, and friendship—here, maile leaves dance around band in celebration of Kanilea's continuous connection with our 'ohana in the pen community.
Read about the items included with your pen. Additionally, we offer Papakōlea, which is created without our Maile Lei band.
Your Kanilea pen will be handcrafted with aloha especially for you. Please allow approx. 8–10 weeks for completion.
